When you make a living online, time is everything. One of the main benefits of being self employed on the net is the freedom it allows. Specifically, the freedom to fit your work around your social life. However, that freedom quickly disappears if you are spending all your time at your computer working.
So I am always happy to hear about things that speed up tasks I do regularly. One feature I love in WordPress is the ability to upgrade via the admin area as it makes the upgrade procedure incredibly quick. However, this doesn’t really help for new installations.
Thankfully, Alister Cameron has released a great little script which speeds up the process of installing WordPress on your server. In the past I would download the latest version of WordPress and then upload the files via FTP. His new WordPress Loader script does this job for you.
All you need to do is upload the 66kb WordPress Loader file to your directory and click the go button. It then takes about 5 seconds to unzip the latest version of WordPress to the directory the loader file was uploaded to.
You still need to update the wp-config.php file as usual, however the whole installation process is now much quicker.
Some hosting panels do offer an automatic WordPress service which will install WordPress though I’m sure those who are not lucky enough to have this feature in their hosting package will really appreciate Alisters new script. I encourage you to check it out.
